There are challenges to consider when using steplighting in an exterior lighting system. Fortunately, there are a number of different types of lighting fixtures that can be used to illuminate steps. Some fixtures are recessed into step risers, while others can be surface mounted on handrails or other vertical surrounding surfaces. To be effective and to avoid glare, the lamps in any of these fixtures should be sight shielded.
